Why Does Tybalt First Challenge Romeo To A Duel?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Capulet gives a feast, so that Paris, kinsman to Escalus, Prince of Verona, can woo his daughter, Juliet. Romeo and two friends "gatecrash" the feast in disguise. Romeo glimpses Juliet as she is dancing, and removes his disguise, a mask, for a better look. He is instantly recognised by Tybalt, Capulet's kinsman, who, enraged at Romeo's impudence, tries to challenge him. Romeo melts away in the general swirl of the feast and Tybalt is thwarted.
