Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The annual Cannes Film Festival is a key film industry event. It is not open to the public but many would-be film makers pay for tickets to help them break into the industry. Everyone from would-be scriptwriters to seasoned film industry investors flock to Cannes in the South of France every May to find ways of making projects or making money. One of the key industry events, the festival awards an annual prize for the best film screened at the event. The Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) award is voted on by a panel of industry professionals. Recent winners have included British film director Ken Loach for 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley' and Michael Moore for 'Farenheit 9/11'. Prizes help bring attention to films and their makers. In an industry which invests millions in high risk products a prizewinning reputation , particularly if earned at Cannes is highly desirable because it helps secure funding through building reputations.
