A Telephone is one of the most widely used means of communication. It is a device through which two people can converse as it transmits and receives electronic signals. A twisted pair of cables is used to handle all the audio as well as the telephone signals.

There are a number of claims pertaining to the invention of telephone. There are a number of scientists who worked on this invention over almost the same period of time. These inventors include Innocenzo Manzetti, Philip Reis, Antonio Meucci, Graham Bell, Thomas Edison etc,

Innocenzo Manzetti presented the idea of a speaking telegraph in the year 1844. Johann Philip Reis demonstrated a model telephone in the year 1861. A Patent was filed by Antonio Meucci in the year 1871 called a sound telegraph. Graham Bell gets the patent for electric sound telegraph in the year 1875. Also note that the first transmission over a telephone was made by Graham Bell on 10 March 1876, 3 days after he got the patent for it. That is why he is usually credited with the invention of telephone.
