Emily Bronte's "Lines" narrate the hardships suffered by human being in the journey of life. Man always strives for peace and rest. Yet peace is always elusive and lies beyond his reach. It is always far away and it is very difficult to have it. The journey towards the land of rest is long and thousands of miles lie between the traveller and his destination.
Barren deserts and high peaks of stormy mountains discourage the travel who sets out to reach the cherished land of rest. Fatigue, disappointment and loneliness make the journey impossible.
Emily Bronte is aware of all these difficulties faced by the traveller. He becomes extremely weak and tired. Lonesome, hopeless and friendless, he falls a victim to despair. When he looks upon the cruel burning sun and endless road, he loses his heart, he ready to give up his struggle and throw away the burden of life. But Emily Bronte's faith in the land of rest is unshaken. She encourages the weary traveller to reach his destination. She consoles him saying that he has already covered the major part of his journey.
She advises him to take heart and continue his journey towards this blissful land of peace and happiness. The poetess thinks that loss of hope is the only obstruction in the way of traveller. She advises the weary traveller to overcome despair. She urges him to defeat his fears and doubts. She promises him a glorious success if he is determined to continue his struggle.
