What Happens If A 24lb. 10 Yr. Old Dog Gets 2 Rabies Shots?
What can happen, symptoms?
Answers
Ceegadd,
It does happen occasionally that dogs receive a vaccine at
the wrong time—usually within a few weeks of each other. A mild vaccine reaction can occur with any
rabies vaccine—lethargy, anorexia, fever, pain or swelling at the injection
site. Dogs often have decreased energy
for 24-48 hours post vaccine. Rarely
several weeks to months after rabies vaccination they can have a local
vasculitis—the fair will fall out and the skin may have some black
pigment.
The most serious vaccine reactions that result in
anaphylactic shock occur within minutes to several hours of vaccination. Facial swelling, difficulty breathing,
itching, drooling, and vomiting can be seen.
If this occurs take to a veterinarian ASAP!
The extra vaccine should not cause any long term
problems. Getting an extra vaccine does
not give longer protection. If you are
concerned please discuss this with your veterinarian.
