Laissez-faire is an economic and political doctrine that goes against the concept of government regulation or interference in commerce beyond the minimum required level. It holds the idea that economies function most effectively when unencumbered by forces of the government. This kind of a system favors individual self-interest and competition, and opposes taxation and regulation of commerce.
