How Can I Lead My Dog?

Every time I try to walk my Pit. I give up because he's so strong he pulls me and goes all over the place. How can I make him calm to where he'll just walk with me not have to be struggling with him?

Well a while ago i had the same problem with my dog but what you need to do that helps. First when first leaving the house make sure that you exit the house first and let him follow behind. That shows that you are in charge. Second when walking don't let your dog wonder freely in front of you. Hold him firmley next to you. Eventually your dog should under stand that he is not leading you. You are leading him.

sorry i didn't see the full question but this is the dog showing you who is boss i have one just the same and i took him to dog training and was told to get a chocker chain and put it higher up the neck and you don't have to tug at it just tighten it and he will learn not to pull but be consistent with it

leading a dog for a walk can me exciting at times it can be distressing especially in your current circumstance. However, the first thing you should identify is perhaps Why is your dog pulling away from you?

Perhaps it's because when your dog pulls, you follow suit which implies that your dog is being rewarded for the very behaviour you don't want! This then justifies that it is your dog who is taking you for the walk rather than you being at the lead. Also you should think twice if you are giving a tug now and again, observe how your dog perceives this act of control? Most preferably, i would it would be good practice to consider while giving a tug that the lead has to be slack. This effectively means that the dog is being punished for having a slack lead! Worse still is that jerking on a lead can cause the spine to move out of alignment, often causing pain, and numerous dogs end up with behaviour problems predispose them to loose sense of direction.

I agree with the opinions expressed here. I can not stress enough, that you must think in 'Dog psychology'. YOmust be the Alpha in his pack. YOneed to establish a relationship with the dog, that makes clear that you are the boss. Use the choke chain if necessary and Stop walking when he leads. Pull back the reign and teach him to sit, and to stay. Whenever he begins pulling, you stop. Get a book from the library, or take him to obedience classes. It is very important that you have control of your dog!
