Anxiety is a feeling of apprehension, uneasiness, agitation, uncertainty and fear.

•Feelings of increased tension, helplessness, inadequacy, fear, distress and worry are the symptoms of anxiety.
•There may also be physical symptoms i.e. palpitations (rapid heartbeat), trembling, shaking voice, white skin, sweaty hands and sleeplessness.

Life changes or stressful events can cause anxiety or there may also be no obvious cause.

Anxiety can be very serious sometimes. It may vary greatly and may be over a short or long term.

It may be acute (short term), from a particular stressful event, or chronic (long term) from generalized anxiety, but there may be also periods of  little anxiety.

    Treatment of Anxiety:
•Some patients can gain benefits from relaxation techniques such as meditation.
•Therapy may reduce symptoms through the reassurance of a supportive friends, relatives or medical professionals.
•Other behavioral-type therapies can be suggested and exercised by a trained specialist therapist; it includes desensitization techniques and cognitive behavioural therapies. The type of therapy that is recommended to the patient depends on the exact type and severity of the anxiety and its underlying cause if it is known to the patient or therapists.
•Treatment with beta-blocker medicines (at generally lower doses than those used for high blood pressure) has controlled some of the symptoms of anxiety, like rapid heart beat and tremor, by bringing some relief to the patient.
