Was Lloyd George Welsh?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The answer to this is Yes and No!  Although he was passionate about Wales and was always regarded as Welsh, he was actually born in Manchester, England.  Both his parents were Welsh, so in that respect he could claim Welsh nationality, although he could also claim to be English, since this was the nation of his birth.
Lloyd George lived from 1863 until 1945 and was a Liberal.  He was also Prime Minister of Britain from 1916- 1922 and was in charge throughout the period of the first World War, although he was voted out of office after the war.
He is perhaps best remembered as a social reformer who as Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1909, reformed the tax system to help those at the bottom of the social scale and tax those who earned a significant amount.  He also enjoyed soemthing of a reputation as a 'ladies man' although this is largely the subject of conjecture.
