Paraphrasing means "repeating or restating what another person says or what a text says in other words." The objective of paraphrasing is to make the listener or the other person understand that you have completely comprehended the matter. Paraphrasing is used effectively in teaching and learning to clarify a lot of concepts and principles.

In customer service, paraphrasing on the part of the customer care executive makes the customer feel that his concerns are being understood are properly. He can then have the peace of mind that his grievances can be addressed well. Paraphrasing is different from parroting. In the latter, the exact words of the speaker are repeated, while in paraphrasing, the choice of words is different but the meaning conveyed is the same. Paraphrasing is sought to simplify a particular text or piece of information. Paraphrasing can be done through writing or in the form of speech.
