A more old fashioned way of proposing is to ask the girl's father for her hand in marriage after discussing it with the girl in question. You need to think it through carefully and be ready to field questions. Remember to be respectful no matter what and have a plan to tackle any resistance.

If the one you love is more of a liberal, then you might consider proposing to her without involving her father or anyone else. Different communities have different traditions and practices that you might want to follow.
