    Umbria is a region of the Central Italy which is located on 8,456 kilometers in the Apennines. Perugia is the capital of the region of Umbria. Previously the Umbria region was occupied by the ancient Italic Umbrian tribe and by their name the whole territory named as Umbria. Umbria was under Roman rule in the time of 300 B.C. In the 1st century A.D it was one of the administrative regions of Rome.

    Umbria became a part of the Papal States during the Christian era. During the 15th and 16th century, the Umbrian School of Painting was found in Umbria and it was important for the contemporary culture of Italy. The school was included with Perugino and Pinturicchio. Umbria was the home of St. Francis of Assisi.

    Nowadays agriculture is the main source of its economics but there are also some industries that produced steel, textiles and chemicals. According to the census report of the year 2001, the population was estimated at 815,588. Umbria is one of the important regions of Central Italy.
