Which Nation Had The First Flag?

The idea of having flag of a nation is a new one. But the idea of flags isn't new; flags were existed from ancient time. They were used in the time of war to mark the position of leaders. In the very early stage most of the flags were carved poles. The ancient Greek had the flags which were merely a piece of armour held aloft upon poles. The first cloth flag was the invention of the Romans. Probably the two oldest national flags were from Denmark, adopted in 1219 and of Switzerland used as early as 1339. The idea was still very new till the United States adopted a flag. Most of the European nations of that time were still fighting under the flags of their king. The French used the flag of the bourbon family; the original national flag of England was actually the banner of St. George. The present form of union flag made known from 1st January, 1801.

When the United States chose their national flag, many other nations followed the way. After the French revolution the tri color was chosen to represent the France. The flag of the Italians was first established in 1805. Many South American nations designed flags for themselves in the 19th century and the idea of a national flag became universally accepted.

The piece of history told about the flags is right. But the heart of the matter is missing. The oldest flag belonged  to Israel under the crown of king David. The star of David that you see in the flag of modern Israel dates back to B.C.
