During the times of the Roman Empire mostly the local representative of the Emperor carried on the work of the vicar. A Vicar is a priest in Christian church.

The basic requirements laid for the position of vicar include a minimum of five years as a practising Catholic. The work should include some form of worthy public activity done and church ministry like teaching CCD, studying the Bible thoroughly, participating in serving persons who are sick in homes, hospitals, nursing home and visiting prisons among other things.

The candidate should be free from sexual problems--such as all forms of homosexuality, bisexuality, bestiality and paedophilia.

The aspirant should not have soiled his hands in blood-shed., and even excommunication.

The candidate must have studied Sacred Scripture beginning with Genesis to Revelation. He should not argue on the norms of the sacred text and accept them as words of the Almighty.

To fulfil the requirements basic education with at least average marks is therefore a must.
