How Can I Improve The Performance Of My Pocket Bike?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Improving how your engine burns its fuel is one of the main areas to look at when boosting pocket bike performance. Fitting an uprated spark plug, for instance, is a good place to start. Platinum plugs last a long time but copper conducts electricity better. However, getting much attention at the moment on the pocket bike scene are irridium spark plugs. At over £10 a pop most may require some convincing of the cost benefit.

Fuel ignition will also be improved by replacing the standard air filter with a racing filter. This lets the engine breathe more easily, getting more oxygen, more quickly to where it's needed most in the combustion process. Alternatively, regularly clean the stock air filter to prevent it clogging and starving the engine.

The next link in the combustion chain is the petrol/oil mix.  Always use good quality synthetic oil and fresh petrol mixed at the proper ratio. An octane rating of 87 is sufficient for most bikes, but confirm this with your owner's manual or dealer. Higher octane fuel or octane booster bring only marginal benefits and are likely to do your engine more harm than good.
