My friend contracted meningitis from somewhere and i wanted to know how.

I hate to say i wish i knew. 5 years ago i developed it. started as sinus infection. i was treated for a week for everything from acid reflux to migraines before a spinal tap was ordered. lucky no one in the family got it.
