Which Of The Following Is A Factor Of X2-5x-6?

I am reviewing for a math placement test..the choices are (x+2), (x-6), (x-3), (x-2), and (x-1)...i checked the answers and it's (x-6)...why is that? I don't understand

    The true factors of X2-5X-6 are (X+1),(X-6). You can simplify the factors to get the equation. Solution is as follows;
    X2-6X+X-6
    =X2-5x-6

      X^2 -5x -6
      [u need to split the 5x up to form two brackets. They need to add up to -5 and multiple to give -6, oz of 1x^2 ..the 1 times... -6]
      x^2 +1x -6x -6
      then u make the first bracket which has to be equal to the second so they can become one]
      x(x+1) -6 (x+1)
      (x-6) (x+1)
      then to check multiple out.
