    See the quadratic formula in the picture (note the + sign). There are two solutions one using plus one using minus.

    x2 - 3x - 7x - 2 = 0   :Get every thing on one side
    x2 -10x - 2 = 0         :Simplify
    a=1, b=-10, c=-2      Define a, b, & c

    First root
    x = =(-(-10)+SQRT((-10)*(-10)-4*1*(-2)))/2*1
    x = 10.19615

    Second root
    x = =(-(-10)-SQRT((-10)*(-10)-4*1*(-2)))/2*1
    x = -0.19615
