Find The Prime Factorization Of 240. Please Show Work?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

    Prime factorization is finding which numbers multiply together to give the original number as an answer.
    Lets start off by dividing with the smallest number
    240/2=120
    120 is not a prime number so dividing further:
    120/6=20
    20 is not a prime number so dividing further:
    20/10=2
    2 is a prime number
    So
    Prime factorization
    120x20x2 = 240

    120x20x2 = 4,800 so this can not be right or I just do not get this

    Can someone let me know if I am doing this right?
    This is how I did it

    240 = 60 * 4
    Now break down 60
    60 = 2 * 30
    30 = 2 * 15
    15 = 3 * 5
    and now the 4
    4 = 2 * 2

    so 2 x 2 x 3 x 5 x 2 x 2 = 240
