    Well, they can boost healthy caloric intake, provide extra protein for muscle growth and are usually fortified with important vitamins, minerals and amino acids.

    They are not a substitute for healthy eating, which is important to maintain.  One who relies too heavily on these supplements may end up with a reduction in dietary fiber and other components of a healthy diet.
