What Is The Capital City Of The UK?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There is no capital city of the United Kingdom.  Instead, the United Kingdom is made up of England, Wales and Scotland which form Great Britain and Northern Ireland which is a province of the UK located in the North of the island of Ireland.  Technically, Northern Ireland is not a country, it is a principality.

London is the capital of England and is the largest and most densely populated city in the Union.  Cardiff is the capital city of Wales.  Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland and Belfast is the capital of Northern Ireland, also known as Ulster.

London is often confused with being the capital of Great Britain but this is an obvious mistake because people confuse England and Britain and English and British.

7.7 million people live in London. Roughly half a million people live in Edinburgh (100,000 of these are students).  Roughly 305,000 people live in Cardiff and roughly 277,000 people live in Belfast.
