Answer Question

Somerset is a picturesque county with rolling hills and a pretty coastline bordering the Bristol Channel and the estuary of the river Severn.  Exmoor National Park and the Mendip, Quantock and Blackdown Hills are all found here.

The famous Cheddar Gorge, a famous tourist attraction is set near the village of Cheddar.  This is the biggest gorge in the UK and it was here that the oldest full skeleton remains in Britain were found in the caves dating back over 9,000 years.

Glastonbury Tor still has a mythical feel and is linked with the supposed discovery of King Arthur's grave in the 12th century.

The county town is Taunton which is also the largest town in Somerset.  The coast has seaside attractions with Weston-super-Mare, Minehead and Burnham on Sea which all became popular for sea bathing in the Victorian period.  These towns were instrumental in bringing the railway to this coast between 1848 and 1874.
