When Was Hereford United Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hereford United Football Club was founded in 1924. At the time there were four amateur teams playing from the area of Hereford. Two out of these four teams decided to merge in order to play a higher quality of football. These teams were St Martins and RAOC and they formed Hereford United FC, whilst Hereford City and Hereford Thistle remained as they were.

The newly formed club originally joined the Birmingham Combination League, followed by the Southern League after the Second World War. They eventually got accepted into the Football League in the season of 1971/72.
Within three seasons inside the Football League, Hereford United had climbed from the Fourth Division to the Second Division.

Unfortunately Hereford were relegated back to Conference level in 1997, but things are starting to look up for the club as they finished in 2nd place in the Conference in the 2005/06 season and gained promotion back into League Two.
