Who Are The Leading Writers In The Advaita Vadenta Tradition?

    Although the Advaita school of the Vadenta is believed to have originated from the eternal Vedas and does not have one specific founder, this school of thought or this tradition does have a number of identified advocates, teacher or promulgators. Following is a list of some of the most reknowned writers of the Advaita VAdenta:

    1. GauDap Ada: He is one of the the earliest advaitin writers whose writings are still available today. He was a philosopher of the 6th or 7th century Ad.
    2. SankarAcArya: He is believed to be one of the first and foremost of the Advaita Avenda promulgators. He was a philosopher of the 8th cent. AD. He wrote the brahmasUtra bhAshyas, the bhagavadgItA bhAshya and several upanishad bhAshyas. He wrote a vast number of commentaries on the scriptures.
    Sankaracarya had Four well – known disciples. The four well known disciples of Sankaracarya known in the tradition are:
    1. SureSvara,
    2. PadmapAda,
    3. ToTaka and
    4. HastAmalaka.

    Another very well known writer of the Advaita tradition was an elder contemporary of SankarAcArya himself. The name of this writer was maNDana miSra. This writer is also is traditionally identified with sureSvara. There were also some later writers which include  vAcaspati miSra, sarvajnAtman, and prakASAtman
