What If A Tick Is Embedded In Human Skin?

If a tick becomes embedded in human skin, the surrounding area may become very red and inflamed. It could become infected if left untreated and may start seeping pus which could be very unpleasant and uncomfortable for the individual.

Although it is likely to eventually be pushed out of the skin, it is best to get it removed as soon as possible to avoid any serious side effects or health problems.

Sometimes it is possible to see the tick head or part of its body sticking out of the skin. In these circumstances it may be possible to remove it yourself. Take a pair of tweezers and wash them in an antibacterial wash so as to avoid any further spread of infection. Then simply try to grab hold of the tick by squeezing it out slowly. Try not to pull it out too quickly as this could lead to part of the tick being left inside your skin which could then runs the risk of further infection. If this does happen though, book an appointment to see a doctor.

If you begin to feel at all unwell or do not feel confident enough to remove the tick yourself - go to your doctor as soon as possible. Your doctor will then use a sterilized needle to remove the tick and you will be given some antibiotic cream to treat the affected area at home.

The tick head is a foreign object that the body reacts to the way it would to splinter: Redness and swelling, infection, sometimes the presence of pus. This is a process that will eventually--in most cases--force the object out. This process can be aided by digging the tick head out with a flame-sterilized needle and/or trying to grab it with tweezers.
