New York City is in Eastern Standard Time (EST) which is -5 hours UTC/GMT. Daylight Saving Time is not currently in force.

Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 11 at  02:00 local standard time. Daylight Saving Time ends on Sunday,  November 4 at 02:00 local daylight time.

At the time of writing, sunrise is at 06:49 and sunset is at 17:31. Currently, then, there are approximately 10 hours, 42 minutes of daylight,  about two minutes and 31 seconds more than February 15.

The clock time in this Eastern Time Zone is based on the mean solar time of the 75th degree meridian west of the Greenwich Observatory. During the winter time, the zone is known as Eastern Standard Time when observing standard time, and Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) when observing daylight saving time during the summer.

The Eastern Time Zone applies along the east coast of North America and the west coast of South America.
