Neutering should lower the desire of your Dane to be top dog. Only the alpha bitch is supposed to reproduce in a pack, so when a bitch comes in season she will try to improve her ranking. It is certainly worth trying.

Yes it really would help. You should always get your dog spayed/neutered if you are not going to breed. Its better for you and the animal.
