How Far In Miles Is Sheffield From Lancaster?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The distance between Sheffield and Lancaster is in the region of 78 miles 'as the crow flies' and around 93.7 miles using the motorways and 88.5 miles using single and dual carriageways.
Using the motorway system may ostensibly seem to be the quickest route, but the problem is that you are going 'cross country' and have to use the M67, the M60 (which is a well known traffic hot spot) then the M61, also a hot spot, followed by the M6 which is not quite so bad as the others this far north, but can be a little slow.  The estimated journey time is just under two hours, but the reality is that it is much more likely to take three and some of the journey will be spent sitting in a queue.
The journey not using motorways involvves travelling through Glossop, Hyde, Salford, Bolton and Preston and should take 2.5 - 3 hours.
Or it can be done direct on the train in about 2 hours !
