Maine Coon Cats , I Am Looking To Buy One , But The Parents Have Not Been Tested For Heart Disease , Should I Look For Another Kitten ?
I am new to Blurtit , and looking for Help about the Maine Coon Cat .
Answers
Is heart disease a big problem in this breed? If so, could the breeder not get the parents checked for this now? What does your vet say - he should know if this is a known problem for the breed.
I thought this was a hale and hearty breed, but I could be wrong.

Sadly, many Maine Coon cats have HCM (heart disease). They are beautiful and friendly cats, but I would not want to fall in love with one and have it die from this horrible disease. Many Maine Coon breeders routinely have their breeding cats tested. I would look for a kitten from one who does that.
