    No that's a misconception he only found uses for peanuts

        Marcellus Gilmore Edson and J. H. Kellogg (of cereal fame) each applied for patents for processes for making what we now know as peanut butter in 1884 and 1897, respectively. But people could have been making something similar long prior to that.
