What Are The Health Benefits Of Using Mullein?

Answer Question

2 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Mullein, or Verbascum densiflorum, has a long history as a medicinal herb.  The leaves, roots, and flowers all contain saponins, mucilage, glycosides, and flavonoids, so this plant is excellent for its antibiotic, antispasmodic, expectorant, astringent, and calmative properties.

Effective for treating colds, coughs, upper and lower respiratory congestion, vomiting, intestinal cramps, and urinary tract infections, mullein truly is a mother's best friend.  Make a decoction of the flowers to add to baths for relief from hemorrhoids and diaper rash.

As a compress, mullein works well to soothe burns, boils, eye and skin inflammations.

I used Mullien tea only in the winter in cold areas,. It helps keep warm. But stopped in the summer, and drank sassafass to keep cool.
