Why Did The Armada Fail?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Spanish armada failed because they were caught when most vulnerable thanks to their commanders being caught up in political wrangling.
There was considerable maneuvering being done behind the scenes by people who were trying to get the coveted overall command of the Armada, and by the time they had more or less sorted things out, the English and their allies caught them with their figurative pants down.
Individually the Spanish ships and captains were the equals of their opponents, but without a clear chain of command they were easy prey for the more organized fleet.
