I Have Rhode Island Reds They Just Started Laying Eggs, They Won't Lay On Them. How Do I Hatch The Ones They've Laid So Far?

My hens will not sit on their eggs. I want chicks and fresh eggs. I have gathered todays eggs and put them in a home made incubator but have no idea on the turning time if even necessary.

The hen hatch their eggs when they are broody. You can not hatch these eggs until your hen is broody. The hen lay one egg daily and after completion of complete clutch. The your hen will become broody. When she start to sit on these eggs, it means she is broody. It will take 21 days to give new chicks. So keep the eggs and wait for the time and don't wash the eggs.

Mkweaver,  You didn't mention a rooster.  You do have a rooster don't you?  Your hens must be with a rooster for the eggs to be fertilized.  You can hatch fertilized eggs in an incubator yourself.  Or....when your hens go broody...that means they are ready to set.  They will lay an egg everyday for about 10 days.  That's called their clutch.  When the hen finishes laying her clutch, she'll begin setting.  You'll notice a change in her personality...she'll be more aggressive and her comb and wattle will be brighter red.  She'll come off her eggs very seldom and just to eat, drink and dessicate.  In 21 days her chicks will hatch.
