What Does Physic Mean?

The word physic is defined as a purgative. A physic or a purgative is a medicine which enables the act of purging. Its main function is to stimulate the evacuation of the bowels. Apart from being a medicine or a medicinal substance or a medicinal preparation, the word physic is defined as the skill of healing of a physician. A physician is a doctor of medicine who has trained at a medical school or a university.

Culvers physic is another name for Culver's root. It is defined as a tall perennial herb. It has spikes and its flowers are small in size and either white or purple in colour. It is common in the eastern part of the continent of North America.

The Chelsea Physic Garden was established by the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries of London. It is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe and the second oldest in the United Kingdom.
