"E Pluribus Unum" is Latin for "One from many" and was origionally the official motto of the USA. In God we trust became the official motto of the USA in 1956 It refers to the United States forming as a cohesive single nation when the thirteen smaller colonies joined together. I remembered this after I posted my answer...lol.
