Mental disorders are manifold and for that reason, there are specific categories that are designed to classify each mental disorder and distinguish them from the other ones by placing them in the appropriate category. These categories include:

Dissociative disorders: Disorders in which various facets of the patient's personality split up, that are normally integrated.

Mood disorders: Mental disorders in which several disturbances are severe enough to affect daily functioning.

Personality disorders: A disorder that is marked by a set of inflexible and maladaptive personality traits, which makes it difficult for the person to function efficiently in society.

Antisocial disorder: Also known as sociopathic disorder, it is the type of disorder in which persons tend to have no regard for the social and ethical rules of society and other people's rights.

Borderline personality disorder: It is the one in which the person has difficulty to have a secure sense of humour.

Narcissistic personality disorder: A disorder marked by an exaggerated sense of self-importance.
