How Often Are Basset Hounds In Season?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Heat cycle of Basset hound is not different from other dogs. Heat periods can last for an average of 21 days in dogs. It starts with vaginal swelling and bleeding which can last for 7-10 days. When bleeding is ceased or reduced, she shows flagging of tail which is indication that she is ready for mating. Mating usually takes place after 12-15 days of start of heat cycle.
