    But in a literal sense, if you take a horse to water, it's not going to drink unless it's thirsty regardless of whether it's male or female.

      This saying actually means that you can give someone all the right conditions to do something, learn something etc, but in the end you can't force them to do it. For example, you could provide a school, classroom, books etc, but you cannot force knowledge into a person's head.

      Is that the same with books thou, because u couldnt eat books?or drink them for that matter ?

        I believe that the actual saying is, " You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink."
        This is an old reference to a stupid, or unwilling person.

        If someone told you that the bridge they took you to...that now you have to jump in the fast flowing river...would you...could they make you jump just by taking you there to the bridge...only if you wanted to jump in and would jump!

          This just means someone is just being stubborn but actually when I lead my horse to water he drinks it all up!

          Horses only drink when they are thirsty  But they drink lots of water  if you led a horse around a while and the to the water chances are they WOULD drink it
