Why Do Marriage Matter So Much To Gay People?

Answer Question

Marriage is a legal term regarding the aspects of this debate. You dont have to be "married in the eyes of God" to be legally married, you can go down to the county court house and have a government employee "marry" you. As such, the government has no right to dictate which people can and can't get married on terms of moral or religious grounds (the only grounds anti-gay marriage proponents stand on). In fact the constitution does not allow for such discrimination which is why so many states are passing legislation allowing for gay marriage.

Furthermore, you are incorrect by stating that getting married is pointless (in a legal sense). Once two people are married in the eyes of the LAW (e.g. Legally married), they have very specific rights allotted to them as a married couple. Insurance and death benefits, the ability to see your partner in a hospital, or even the ability make important medical decisions for your spouse (if they are unconscious or disabled in some way) are all things which married couples get in terms of given rights. These are things which you can not get (or are very hard to get) if you are just "dating" or "living together". Let us not also forget the tax breaks people get once married, were talking a lot of potential money here.

Bottom line is, I dont care if you love the idea of gay marriage or think every gay person is going to hell. This is the United States of America (unless you live somewhere else of course) and as such we must abide by the constitution, the bill of rights, and any legitimately passed legislation. There is a reason why "separation of church and state" was one of the first things our founding fathers put fourth when solidifying this nation.

By the way, I think you should lay off trying to argue controversial topics until you are able to properly form a grammatically correct sentence, as well as knowing the difference between making things up and stating factual evidence. As such I demand you cite your sources on this propaganda you are writing in regards to lesbians and childbirth.

Because in most states they aren't allowed to be legally married. Heterosexual couples have the right to be legally married and live the rest of their lives together as husband and wife. Gay people are human beings and they also deserve this right.

Getting married is point less. It doesn't mean u love a person more or less. Your just putting a ring on someone else finger and saying a few words. Gay people shoudn't make this a big deal.
