Answer Question

With regards to plot, there are several areas to consider:
The plot is the arrangement of events that occur in the story, it creates the cause and effect structure which powers the story and maintains our interest.  Generally, all plots seem to have the same basic elements:

Inciting Incident: something happens which starts the whole ball rolling, in Jaws for instance, there is a shark attack and Sheriff Brody starts looking into it.

Exposition - this is information which the reader/audience needs to be aware of to understand the story.  However, this is most deeply abused area by inexperienced writers.

Crisis - The point at which the protagonist's goal is at the point of being achieved/lost, this is what leads to the next element:-

Climax - the point at which the story reaches its highest point of dramatic tension, the most exciting part of the movie.

Resolution - this shows how the story ends up, what path is taken to achieve the required result?
