Iceland is located in the northern Atlantic Ocean. It is situated between Greenland, Norway, Scotland, Ireland and the Faroe Islands. Iceland, officially the Republic of Iceland, is a volcanic island nation. Although the island is now inhabited by immigrants from Ireland and Scandinavia, it was known to be the last of large islands to be uninhabited by man. The Book of Icelanders mentions that Norwegian Ingólfur Arnarson was the first man, in 870, to settle in Iceland. Iceland was a free state until Sturlungaöld civil war in 1262. Iceland was ruled by Denmark from 1387. It became a dominion of Denmark after it moved on from the Norwegian throne to the Danish king. The only mammal present on the island when humans inhabited it was the arctic fox.

It is on the right side of Greenland. If you are still in school, ask your social studies teacher. Good luck!
