How Do You Make Cement?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Cement is a substance which has a fine, soft and powdery texture. It is made from a mixture of various elements which can be found in such natural materials as limestone, clay, sand and/or shale. When you mix cement with water, it can bind sand and gravel into concrete. Concrete is a substance which has a hard and solid texture.

Cement is essentially made of four elements, namely calcium, silicon, aluminium and iron. Calcium is the main ingredient that is used in the production of cement. It can be obtained from limestone. Silicon can be obtained from either sand or clay or both. Aluminium can be obtained by extracting it from its ore, which is known as bauxite, and iron can be obtained by extracting it from its ore, which is known as iron ore. However, only small amounts (or trace amounts) of the latter two elements, that is aluminium and iron, are needed to make cement.
