Dysbetalipoproteinaemia is also known as Hyperlipoproteinemia and type III is a rare genetic disorder. It is categorised by the abnormal breakdown of fatty materials otherwise known as lipids, specifically cholesterol and triglycerides. This then causes abnormal accumulation of lipids and bumps start to appear on the skin. Sufferers can also develop a build up of fatty materials within the blood vessels and that can then cause a blockage to the blood flow. This blockage could then cause coronary heart disease. In most sufferers cases Dysbetalipoproteinaemia Type III is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait. Yu do not have to be older to develop this condition and if left untreated it can lead to heart attacks even at an early age. The main problem with the condition is that the liver does not properly remove remnant lipoproteins from the bloodstream, hence causing an accumulation of them. Although it is a severe condition, it usually responds well to treatment. So if you do suspect that you have this condition, it is always best to get it diagnosed as quickly as possible!
