Can You Explain The Term Kerogen?

    Kerogen is an organic compound that is found in the sedimentary rocks, it is not a pure compound in fact it is a mixture of various other organic compounds. Due to this reason, it has not been given a chemical formula and the composition even varies from one sample to the other. There are different forms of kerogens that have been classified according to their composition. It is classified as Type I, Type II, Type II sulfur, Type III AND Type IV. It can be extracted from various materials in the earth, ocean, and coal and is even produced by some land plants. Some kerogens also release fuel or natural gas as well.
