Where The Band Can From Germany?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Can was formed in Cologne, West Germany, in 1968. The band featured Holger Czukay on bass, Irmin Schmidt on keyboards, Michael Karoli on guitars, and Jaki Liebezeit on drums, along with original member David Johnson, who was an American musicologist. David left soon after the band's founding, unhapppy with the band's taking a rock direction.

They were one of the most prominent avante garde groups of the 70s. Their music did not conform to standard rock n roll or even to those of countercultures. With 20th centurey classical music as more of an inspiration than Chuck Berry, their only contemporaries were Frank Zappa, and maybe Velvet Underground.

They only had brief commercial success, with singles like "Spoon" and "I Want More" hitting the national singles charts, but they exerted a sizeable influence on avant-garde, ambient, experimental, underground, New Wave and electronic music through albums liek Tago Mago and Ege Bamyasi.
