How Unhealthy Are Our Diets?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Here are some examples of our dietary excesses and deficiencies, per person, per year average in the UK:

Alcohol: For persons age 14 and over, 11.5 litres per year of 'pure' alcohol (corresponds to about 115 litres of wine, or 230 litres of beer).
    50 g/day).
Caffeine: About 450 mg/day, for all persons (200 mg is enough to give a buzz).
Fats: 9.7 kg per year (186 g/week, about 12% of calorie intake).  This has gone down considerably in last 30 years.
Fizzy drinks (soda): young adults drink on average 6 cans (330ml each) per week.
Fruit and Veg: 3 servings per week (should be at least 5)
Salt: 3.168 kg per person per year (should be 2 kg)
Sugars: 29.5 kg  per person per year (17% of our diet, but should be no more than 10% of our calorie intake, or < 50 g /day).
