When Was The Reign Of Charles VI Of Austria?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Charles VI of Austria was born on the 1st of October 1685, and he reigned as Holy Roman Emperor from 1711 to 1740. He was born to Leopold I and his third wife, Eleonore Magdalena. He first took on the royal title Charles III of Aragon and Castile, but soon after his ascension he changed his name. He was the Spanish Habsburgs' contracted heir. When Philip V was made successor by Charles II of Spain, Louis XIV dishonored the contract. The dispute over the crown of Spain gave rise to the War of Spanish Succession. Following the sudden death of his brother Joseph I, he was forced to return home to Austria in order to take over the Emperor's throne. He became the Holy Roman Emperor in Frankfurt during 1711. Although it appears that he was not very proficient in political affairs, the expansion of the Austrian Monarchy was at its widest during his reign.
