How Do Steam Ovens Work?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Steam ovens are commonly used to cook certain types of vegetables and meat dishes. There are portable steam ovens available in the market. These can be placed on the top of the kitchen counter. It is about the same size as a microwave oven. A steam oven has a built-in reservoir. This reservoir is filled with water. The water is the first ingredient used in the baking process.

Steam is injected into the steam oven. The temperature of steam is usually about 38 degrees Centigrade. Food which is cooked at this temperature, which when converted into degrees Fahrenheit comes to approximately 100 degrees Fahrenheit, gets cooked at a very fast pace and also has a lower content of fat.

For example, an entire broiler chicken takes approximately about 20 minutes to cook. The steam oven, therefore, is a very useful appliance, particularly in today's age of fast food, for those people who do not have the time or patience to wait for the usual hour or two, which it takes to cook the whole chicken in a regular oven.
