Kingdom of the two Sicilies was the former kingdom of Italy. It was united with the southern part of the country attached with the island of Sicily. The area was a Norman kingdom in the 11th century. In the time of 1282 the entire area were divided into two parts. Mainland was under Angevin or French dynasty and the other; island was under Aragonese or Spanish dynasty. But the problem arrived when both of the king's from both dynasties claimed the title 'king of Sicily'.
Alfonso V of Aragon was the first man in the history of Sicily, who reunited both the lands, that is mainland and island, and took the title of king of two Sicily's. It happened by the year of 1442. Between 16th-19th centuries the region was under both Spanish and Bourbon rules. The title was often used by them. The title became official in the year of 1816. It happened in that time when the administration of both of the part had been divided and the kingdom of Sicily re-divided lost autonomy.
The two sicilies became the part of Italian kingdom in the year of 1860, when Giuseppe de Garibaldi occupied them.
