Is Philadelphia Affluent?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

If this implies rich and abundant, then yes it is. But it has its share of poverty too.

Philadelphia has its economy centered on manufacturing, food, refining and financial services. Besides this, it was once the Capital of the United States and the Federal Government takes a special interest in the City. It has lots of Historical places for people to visit, and so a developed tourism industry. Several Law firms, Universities and colleges are located here. The Reserve Bank, Court of Appeals and the Federal Reserve Bank are all located here.

Despite the existence of all these institutions and commercial establishments, 22 percent of Philadelphia's population lives below the Poverty line. The city's per capita income is just $ 16,509. Crime rates continue to increase year on year since World War Two, but this is a common trait of most parts of the United States.
